In this session, we learned about Wehwehneh Bahgahkinahgohn, a groundbreaking cultural hub being developed by the Southern Chiefs’ Organization (SCO). In collaboration with the Hudson Bay Company (HBC) federal, provincial, and municipal Treaty partners, as well as Number Ten Architecture, SCO has developed a visionary plan<\/span><\/span><\/a> that will transform the historic HBC building in downtown Winnipeg into a space for economic and social reconciliation.<\/p>\n

We also explored the partnership between Tapestry Opera, Nightwood Theatre, and St. Clare\u2019s, one of Canada\u2019s largest private non-profit developers of new supportive and affordable housing. Their joint effort will build a new collaborative space for the performing arts at 877 Yonge Street<\/span><\/span><\/a>. Together, they are working on creating a stable and exciting new arts complex in the heart of Toronto.<\/p>\n

We considered these two innovative cultural hubs, their unique approaches to fostering cultural growth and social development, and the transformative potential of these mixed-use spaces.<\/p>\n
