Business / Arts, the National Arts Centre and Nanos Research have come together to gauge Canadians’ attitudes on returning to arts and culture events through the Arts Response Tracking Survey (ARTS). This quarterly report polls over 1000 culture-goers who have attended an indoor cultural gathering, an outdoor cultural gathering or a gallery or museum in the 12-month period prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since the first report was published in May 2020, ARTS has become a regular monitor of the environment in the Canadian arts and culture sector. It offers valuable insights into audience behaviours and aims to support arts organizations in developing effective reopening strategies and programming models. This year, four reports were published and shared with our network.

The December 2021 / January 2022 report considered:

  • When culture-goers plan to return to in-person activities
  • Precautions required to make audiences comfortable in returning
  • Obstacles to participation
  • The perceived risk of attending indoor art/cultural events
